MMMS S8E7: Summer School

Thank you for scramble live from the Jerry Clements book signings last Sunday

after 4th of July. We'll make a show.

The Richardson's just pulling in. It is jam-packed full of golf carts up in

here. If you parked in the back row, you were a chile well fucked.

The weather is perfect,

And it is the potential for stuff to go down today.

And by perfect, she means cloudy and 72. And this is a good mix of people.

Everyone's having a great day.

God, she's so positive. It's very annoying.

Welcome to the Miller Money Madhouse.

Hello, it's been a minute.

Midsummer edition. I am Jerry Pancake. Joshua Scramble here live with you.

Jenny Pancake.

And it is true. She is so positive it is annoying. I mean, everyone was having

a great time. There's no shortage of great times here in Miller Beach at all, I don't think.

Some would say there's too many good times.

Too much entertainment?

Too much entertainment. I mean, it has been.

This is a too much entertainment production.

It has been a shotgun of entertainment right in your mouth.

For me, I don't know about anyone else, but I've been taking shots to the mouth,

of entertainment for July 1st all the way through today, right?

Yeah, July has been something. That's for sure.

Well, it only really got nice in July, so it's weird that we're doing this midsummer,

check-in because it's like, in theory, it's going to be technically over at

Labor Day. I know. I think it's going to stay warm for a while.

Beach count day, low.

Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah, we haven't had a lot of beach days. We've had...

Maybe. I don't even know. We've had...

Not many.

Yeah. It's either been blazing hot or we've had some storms.

Yeah. Obviously the last episode.

Teenados.

Apparently whenever we record it is a tornado.

It turned black today like three or four times.

The streetlights came on all of our solar lights.

Yeah, the streetlights came on at like four o'clock in the afternoon. It was very bizarre.

That was, yeah, pretty bizarre.

Some people have their power out.

Not us, woo! Not us, well, I mean, you never can tell. All it takes is one butterfly,

landing on the power lines, and we'll be out for- A hummingbird.

Yeah, a hummingbird, and we'll be out for a while. Shout out to Leslie Latte.

Yeah. Shout out to who? Leslie Latte.

Oh, for the hummingbirds? Hummingbird enthusiasts. Yes.

We had a hummingbird feeder, but it's been out of service for a while.

I can't keep up with my life.

There's a very tiny side of the water. Hummingbirds are like,

oh, man, this thing's been broke all summer.

Land on the deck and kick it like, oh, come on, give me some juice.

Yeah, I put a dollar in that thing for some sugar, and now I got nothing.

Little do they know, it's rotting in my fridge right now.

The sugar is rotting. The hummingbirds are wandering up like,

this is just like the shake machine at McDonald's. Yeah, it's never open.

The Ponson Hummingbird feeder is never working.

Or it's just spilled all over the ground, so it's just ants.

You know what I didn't like? No ants. That's why I thought that something's wrong.

Well, it's the water, mainly. The polluted water that we now have here that we have to worry about.

Fake sugar is what I thought.

Why does the water—does anyone notice the water smells like chemicals?

It doesn't.

It smells like poop.

Just the air I'd rather have it smell like chemicals Than fecal matter Probably,

I mean, taster's choice, I guess,

Yuck Good to the last plop So what are we talking about today?

Well, we gotta go way back We gotta go all the way back Wait.

What July day is it? So we can get a real time Is it the 25th?

It's in the late 20s Yeah, we're in the late 20s of.

July The late 20s of the longest month of the summer Yeah,

The month is starting to get its shit together But it's still not quite adult yet Yep.

And it's not gonna make it Nope It just,

Yeah It just got fired from its job, I think Going.

All the way back to 4th of

July Yeah Yeah Which was a little mellow than I usually do it Well,

storms again It was very stormy It was mellow though.

I would agree Yeah,

It kind of rained on and off all day.

The morning was good. We watched the shortest parade on earth.

Short parade.

They went really fast.

If you're going to watch a parade, might as well be a short one.

Yeah. And be mindful if you're going to wear one of those costumes or whatever,

the blow up ones, and you're going to drive something or ride on something.

And it's been so humid here.

Where you see out will fog up potentially, and you could run into any number of things.

Children Houses A bush A boulder,

It has been done before And now there is a traffic cone in front of that boulder

Which I don't know if that helps I don't think it's Is it on it or in front

of it It's like on it with a piece of wood.

Hey he's doing his part to try and prevent

Boulder accidents I mean you should just move the boulder I wouldn't either There.

Goes your retaining wall No thanks

But, yeah, we have not recorded in a while. Fourth of July, I did not go to

the beach to watch the fireworks. Apparently, they were good.

Yeah, it was a...

I did not. I was done at a certain point. I was like, I'm not going to get soaked.

It was, like, weirdly hot.

You were really taking a chance if you went down there because...

Well, it rained for three hours. It could be buggy. It could be muggy.

It was all of those things.

That was the hazy part of my day. where I fell asleep like it was night.

So I didn't think, I thought she was done. So I was like.

It was definitely tame, but I definitely had a brunch buzz going.

I thought she was done. So I'm like, I'm going to take a shower.

I'm not going down for the fireworks. I'm going to relax, you know.

And then I spring awake into action.

And then she couldn't miss the fireworks. And I was like, I'm not coming down there.

Well, we went down. Remember, after the rain stopped? Yes. We went down there. or no it was before the

Rain yeah.

Because that's when our hair

We did yeah oh well let's talk about that so uh i don't know if there's any

weather people that listen maybe skilling if he's on here or whatever give us a call 219-200-4280.

Give us a weather

Update if you're on like in an uncovered area like a field or a beach and all

of your hair stands up on end and you're all looking at each other going,

oh, my God, like we rubbed a balloon on each other's hair.

Are we in danger?

I can tell you, I looked it up right after you texted that, and it says a lightning

strike is likely imminent.

And so Jen Pancake was like, oh, I wish we could just stay out here,

and then if it gets bad, we'll run away.

you know, we'll run for shelter.

I certainly didn't say we'll run anywhere. Cause I'm not, well,

We'll go. Well, you said then if it gets bad, then we can go for shelter.

And I'm like, it's already bad. Like it's on us, like in Twister where the guy's

like, Oh, I feel like something's coming. And, um, Bill Paxton goes, it's already here.

And then the old screen explodes. Right.

Speaking of skilling, uh, if you must know, So he did comment that the pictures

that he saw from our beach, because they were shared widely,

he said the storm was busting up, as I also predicted.

Yeah, but then it did rain for three hours. Yeah, it rained for three hours straight. Some of our.

Neighbors stayed on the beach the whole time.

Some of our neighbors exercised poor judgment. So, well, and also,

like, the amount of alcohol in some of our neighbor's systems.

There's no rationalizing when you've been drinking, probably,

because the pre-gaming for the fourth starts, well, the night before.

Not for us, it didn't. We did nothing on the third.

Especially this year because the third was on Friday, so you got that little kickoff.

Hopefully everybody else pre-gamed responsibly. We did nothing.

Yeah, we were beat up from the Wednesday night,

prior to that.

Who can say?

Which was Chad Burton. Oh, yeah. Yeah, the first was Chad Burton.

Wait. Or one of those days before the 4th. I believe it was.

Really? At the Flamingo. I think so.

Oh, on the Thursday.

On the Wednesday. On Wednesday. Or was it a Thursday?

It was a Thursday.

Oh, yeah. So it was the pre-pre-4th of July.

So the rare Thursday night music. The pre-pre-show. Yeah. Chad Burton.

It's kind of like Super Bowl. It was like the 8 a.m. pre-game show.

I know. It's all these little Flamingo fests.

Mini Flamingo fests.

Many Flamingo Fats that are happening, but I don't know.

That was a good night. If my cloudy memory serves, I don't think.

That was a good night, but we were still recovering from that on Friday.

We drove around on the golf cart, but.

No action.

Well, I think there was a lot of lightning out that night. Yeah. If I remember.

I don't know. It's all a blur since that.

Chad Burton. No, I think it was. And then.

I don't know.

There was a lot of shit going on.

Was that the, either way, we didn't do anything. All right. Kid parade. Short.

Brunch. Drunk. Hair stand up. Lightning.

Yes. I came back here. Did I get a pizza? I think I did.

It was not, they gave it away to someone else.

And I can't, I'm sorry. Like, I'm not going to blame anyone or mention the name

of the establishment, but,

I was very disappointed to walk in there to pick up my pizza so I could settle

in here and not do anything for the rest of the night, only to have them tell me, we made it.

We just, somebody else must have took it. And then. There's another pancake

in the neighborhood. Yeah. So then it was remade again. And then it was not,

it had zero meat on it, which is probably good for, for me, but I did. I wanted sausage.

I didn't know you very well. Um, doesn't consider it a meal unless there's meat involved.

That's the four food groups. That's not my fault. That's Ronald Reagan taught me.

Jimmy Carter or whoever it was. I

think the food pyramid was the Reagan administration. Was it? I think so.

Cause I remember. You gotta have meat. You gotta have milk.

You got to have corn. Bread up the ass. Yeah. And bread.

Well, I was worried that going back down to the beach was going to be too wet,

too buggy, too hot. All the things.

All the reasons I didn't go.

But it wound up being really, really nice. Yeah. And thank goodness for the...

Chrissy, Count Chocula, and Brad, what, a million?

Yeah, I can't, we don't know. Brad, Huevos, Rancheros.

We're never going to get back in town.

Chrissy's corn... Cornholio. Yeah, no, corn-ares or whatever.

I don't know. It's Mexican. I don't know Mexican.

But either way, thank goodness that they wanted to go back down for fireworks

because it was a very nice night.

Well, I'm glad you had a good fourth.

Did i say

That speaking of fireworks to the asshole who decided to light his off by my

house at 12 45 yeah like we're gonna you're gonna have to have a talk with these

fireworks people did you hear it i didn't hear it was late no but like these

were close to my house like i could hear the reverb very i had the yeah,

i had the next door post just typed out on my phone whoever's lighting these,

fireworks off as a fucking asshole right now.

I'll kill you. Yeah, I will come over and find you and kill you.

I'm getting on my golf cart right now, and it's going to be a murder situation.

Dan Kik has a particular set of skills.

Yeah, like, no one, and here's the thing, no one will fault me.

No one's going to say they saw anything. I will get away with it,

because people are really fucking getting mad about these fireworks.

A lot of supporters on the no fireworks right now.

Yeah, especially on Nextdoor. Like, if you go out Nextdoor, even people from

Chesterton are like, this is fucking bullshit.

And, you know, like, they're like Freedom and, like, Valparaiso,

too. I saw somebody boast of Valparaiso. What the fuck? Why are there all these fireworks?

And then, you know, you have all these very staunch fireworks supporters,

which I don't understand why they want to just waste their money,

piss off all their neighbors.

They're just having fun

YOLO it's called freedom fuck off it's called being an asshole it's your neighbors

well you should care about pissing your neighbors off what.

If it's not the neighbors oh

Just some random guy driving around lighten up fireworks well I mean they're

temporary neighbors that's how we treat them, we're kind to them,

We don't walk by the Airbnb and throw shit at them.

I'm like, I'm going to take a dynamite.

Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Maybe we should start doing that. Well,

I stayed at this Airbnb in Miller, and like six people drove by on golf carts

and threw M80s in the yard.

Yeah.

Okay welcome to town yeah welcome to miller motherfucker boom boom boom shook

the house my dog shit all over the airbnb.

And a paper

And fire with fire like i'll do that if we're gonna have a war over on fireworks,

but like if you're a neighbor you like you should be like oh hey.

Some good air

Plug yeah it's 1 30 in the morning maybe some of my neighbors i know a lot of

people i don't know what they do here but they don't work but still definitely

not yeah like you should be considerate of the pets especially.

No one cares

No all right let's listen to another clip here see what's going on back.

To mini flamingo fest

Yeah we'll see let's see i don't know we'll.

See it starts it

Yeah oh wait.

Are they do they have a i don't even remember

The Jerry Clements theme song. Alright,

that was a good one It is the Jerry Clemens theme song God, how many times has

Jerry Clemens played since we last recorded?

At least six or seven It's been a good couple times, right?

I mean, in his world, probably every day.

Because he did the book signing one.

That was the 5th of July.

Flamingo. Oh, so that was packed, too. That was 5th of July.

That was a Sunday. It was a gloomy Sunday with a crap of newbies that we had

never seen before. Oh, yeah.

I mean, he was pulling tail from the whole region that day.

Like, and, you know, he's got a loyal following and...

I don't know. I think it turned into...

sizable crowd, right?
